THE TRAMPLED FIELDS

Jonathan Ware, who homesteaded with his family in Kansas before the war broke out, was killed by raiders sympathetic to the Confederate States of America. His sons serve against each other in the Union and Confederate Armies. His widow and his two daughters, Christy and Beth, have sought refuge from the constant raids in a hidden valley with other women and children.
