Books In Motion has been a pioneer in the ever-growing industry of audiobook publishing, producing audiobooks with some of the finest authors, and best voice actors, for over 40 years. We accept original manuscripts as well as published books, for creating audiobooks. A letter of introduction and a synopsis of the book content is required with each submission.
IMPORTANT: Please contact Books In Motion by email to janet@booksinmotion.com in advance of sending the manuscript or book for consideration. We cannot guarantee receipt of any submissions sent without prior approval. At times we may be closed to submissions, when our wait list is full.
- For manuscripts: Must be edited and cleaned, ready for recording. If paper document is submitted, the author should keep a copy, since the submitted document may not be able to be returned.
- For published books: Please indicate whether the author owns the rights to the audio and is free to contract directly with Books In Motion, or whether a recording contract would need to be negotiated with a third-party agent or publisher.
Authors Please Note
- Submissions having prior approval will be acknowledged upon receipt.
- Review of each submission may take up to several weeks, before a decision is reached.
- Once our review is completed, you will be contacted and informed of our decision.
- Manuscripts and books that are found to be well-suited to audio and that are a good fit with our Books In Motion clientele may be offered a “Publishing” contract, which includes full service audiobook creation, then distribution through our www.booksinmotion.com website as well as our several worldwide marketing partners. Royalties are paid on Books In Motion’s gross sales income from the audiobook.
- Alternatively, we offer a “Production Services” contract for certain manuscripts and books. The author is provided with an expertly produced raw audio file. If desired, audio mastering can be done to bring the raw recordings up to industry standards post-recording for CD, MP3 CD and Download formats. This entails a separate Mastering fee for technician labor and typically takes between one and two hours depending on length of the book. In the Production Services scenario, you will retain all rights and be able to market the audiobook however you wish, thereby collecting potentially 100% of the sales.
- Current cost for recordings is $200 per finished hour. For example, a book that is 5 hours in length would cost $1,000 for recording. This basic cost is applicable to Publishing contracts as well as Production Services contracts. In researching prices charged by other audiobook companies, we believe this rate is quite reasonable – lower than what you would find from other studios/audio performers. With a Publishing contract, all finishing work as well as distribution of the published audiobook is included in the basic recording cost. With a Production Services contract, the raw audio file is included in the recording cost; mastering and any other work -– including cover design -- is available at additional cost.
- Contract terms may be subject to change and will be discussed at time of the offer.
- Currently we are accepting fiction, non-fiction and educational books for recording.
- Please no stories that include excessive profanity and no stories that focus on erotica, satanism, cannibalism, or unnatural situations of horror, destruction, abuse, sex or the like.
